Knitting Socks (Advanced Beginner Class)

Get ready for fall! Join knitting instructor Alice Swan (see her bio in the “About Us” page) for a three-part class in sock-knitting from start to finish. Beginning with casting on, over the course of three weeks, you’ll knit from the top down, turn the heel and bind the toe with the Kitchner stitch for a seam-free finish. Each class will introduce a new part of the project to begin in class and then work on as “homework” before the next meeting. Depending on your knitting speed, you’ll complete one sock or a pair.

Skills Requirement: Must be comfortable with a long-tail cast on, knit and purl stitches

Skills Learned:

  • Knitting with double-pointed needles
  • Knitting in the round
  • Increasing and decreasing
  • Turning a heel/making a gusset
  • Kitchner stitch seamless finishing

Supplies Needed: You will need to bring the following supplies to the first class session. (Students receive 15% off all class supplies purchased from Evanston Stitchworks.)

  • One skein sock-weight yarn
  • One pair US size 0, 1 or 2 double-pointed knitting needles,
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch holder

We Will Provide:

  • A copy of the knitting pattern for you to use and keep
  • Guidance including tips and techniques to make the project a success

Registration and Cancellation**: Please register in advance. Classes with less than 50% enrollment may be cancelled at the discretion of the instructor within 72 hours of the first class. In this case, a full refund will be given. Full refunds granted up to 2 weeks before first scheduled class. After that, and up to 72 hrs before a scheduled class, cancellations will result in credit toward another class on a stand-by basis. Cancellations within 72hrs or less of a scheduled class are non-refundable/non-transferrable unless the class sells out.
