Drop Spindle and Fiber Sampling Workshop
11:00am - 12:30pm

Saturday, August 1

Instructor: Maggie Leininger

We're showcasing spinning fiber from RMR and Pop and Folk Fiberworks for the Chicago Yarn Crawl this year. We thought a beginner-friendly drop-spindle workshop and fiber tutorial might be just the thing to start you on your next obsession, err hobby.

From Maggie: Explore the process of spinning yarn by hand using a drop spindle. This introductory workshop is ideal for those who are spinning curious and want to dip their toe into the world of hand-spun yarn. Participants will discover the differences between various fibers such as cotton, silk, wool, and flax, and why they might want to spin their own yarn versus purchasing mill produced yarn. Each participant will have the opportunity to spin a sample to take home or have the option to watch others spin while using hand-spun yarn to create a mini-woven sample using a sample frame loom.
